Oman to set up USD200m sugar refinery

15 Apr 2013

(MENAFN) Oman Sugar Refinery Co project director, Ashwin Rana, announced that the company, a joint venture of local businessman Nasser Al Hosni and UK’s Tate & Lyle Sugars, will establish a USD200-million sugar refinery at the port of Sohar, reported Arabian Business.

Rana said that the refinery will have an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of sugar, with output expected to begin by the end of 2015.

He added that the firm may also export some of the sugar production.

It is worth noting that Bosch Projects, the South African builder, will begin constructing the refinery, the fist in the Sultanate, in 2013’s third quarter.
