(MENAFN) Qatar Telecom’s Omani unit Nawras has recently inked a deal with China’s Huawei to develop its Radio Access Network (RAN) across the Sultanate, Trade Arabia reported.
Under the deal, Huawei will help Nawras upgrade all its sites to enhanced 3G+ as well as increasing coverage, in-building penetration, capacity and speed of the entire network.
The move, along with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s release of two more 3G+ frequencies, will at least triple Nawras’ mobile broadband capacity to serve broadband hungry customers, said CEO Ross Cormack.
Cormack also unveiled plans to launch the long awaited 4G LTE technology to provide high-speed mobile data with an exciting new level of customer experience.
He said it will cover all major areas of Muscat Governorate including Ruwi, Central Business District, Wadi Kabir, Muttrah, Qurm, Azaiba, Al Khuwair, Ghala, Baushar, Mawaleh and The Wave, by the end of the year. All major cities will enjoy LTE coverage by June 2013.
