08 Jan 2012

(MENAFN) Oman’s Transport and Communications Minister, Dr Ahmad Bin Mohammad Al Futaisi, said that the country’s railway project would enhance the Sultanate’s economic growth and sustainable development, reported Gulf News.

Al Futaisi added that the decision to award the contract for the 1,06km railway would be taken in collaboration with the tender board, adding that technical and financial bids submitted by the pre-qualified firms were under study.

He also said that the railway would have the ability to transfer large quantities of goods and a large number of travelers for long distances between the GCC countries; moreover, it would be forecasted to create job opportunities for Arab Gulf citizens.

It is worth noting that the railway would be linked with the UAE through Khatmat Milaha, a border point which connects Sohar to Fujairah.
