(MENAFN) Qatar Airways chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, stated that the carrier has grounded its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet after receiving instructions from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority, reported Emirates 24/7.
Al Baker said that the five 787s will not return back to service until safety issues are resolved.
According to the FAA statement, carriers would have to make sure that lithium-ion batteries were safe before the aircraft could recommence flying.
Qatar Airways, which is the Middle East’s largest customer for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, didn’t indicate whether it would ask for a compensation from the plane manufacturer or not.
