(MENAFN) Jordan’s minister of energy, Qutaiba Abu Qura, said that Jordan and Qatar plan to establish a gas terminal in Aqaba by next year with a cost of millions of dollars, reported Gulf News.

Abu Qura added that also by 2013, the two countries would construct several reception terminals in Jordan to help the country receive liquefied gas to offset imports from Egypt.

On the other hand, Qatar’s minister of energy, Mohammad Bin Saleh, said that the two countries were studying the project, which would allow the country to transfer liquefied gas and natural gas to Jordan, however, as a result of infrastructure requirements; it would take Jordan around 3 years to benefit from any new energy contract.

It is worth noting that Jordan relies on gas imports from Egypt, however, due to several acts of sabotage that targeted the 400 km pipelines that transfer gas from Egypt to the country, supplies of liquefied gas declined notably.
