(MENAFN) Qatar has made an order for 200 Leopard tanks from Germany, with a potential value of USD2.5 billion, German magazine Der Spiegel reported.
The tanks are made by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) in collaboration with German industrial group Rheinmetall .
The magazine said that the German security council, including Chancellor Angela Merkel and key ministers has not yet discussed Qatar’s request.
The German media also expected that the economy ministry and the Chancellery to support the tanks deal.
In June, it was reported that Saudi Arabia eyed to buy 600 to 800 tanks, sending Rheinmetall’s share up.
