(MENAFN) The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated that it has received a request from the Qatari government to acquire US attack helicopters and missiles in a USD3 billion deal, reported Arabian Business.
The agency said that it has informed Congress of the potential sale of the 24 AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopters and 700 Hellfire missiles.
The Hellfire tactical missiles request comes with associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support, at an estimated cost of USD137 million, on the other hand, the acquisition of the helicopters will enhance collaboration with US forces through training exercises, and will let the Qatari Armed Forces change its aging aircraft.
In June the agency said that Qatar also showed interest to acquire 22 Seahawk multi-mission helicopters, 12 fitted with the armed helicopter modification kit in a deal worth USD2.5 billion.
It is worth noting that Qatar has also requested a potential sale of 56 engines and associated equipment that include night vision sensors and missile launchers.
