(MENAFN) Qatar Railways Company’s (QRail) chief program officer, Ghanim Hassan Al Ibrahim, announced that the company is set to award several tenders for the Doha Metro, reported Arabian Business.
Al Ibrahim added that by the end of the current year, QRail will award a tender to hire a logistics coordinator, whereas in the first quarter of next year it will award a tender for underground lines and major stations, and another tender for elevated lines will be awarded in 2013’s third quarter.
He said that Qatar’s Doha Metro, Lusail City light rail transit network, the West Bay transit system and the GCC rail network, will offer an efficient, first-class public transport system within the country; moreover, it will connect to the rest of the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
It is worth noting that completion of the 4 environment-friendly railway projects is scheduled to begin in 2016, while full operations will start in 2019.
