(MENAFN) Qatar Railways Co has awarded contracts totaling USD406.4 million for its planned USD36 billion metro in Doha, Reuters reported.
Abdullah Al-Subaie, managing director of Qatar Railways, said in a press conference that the company has awarded three contracts worth USD313.1 million to manage the metro’s three out of four lines.
The first contract was given to US-based Jacobs Engineering Group to manage the metro’s Red Line, while the second contract was given to a team of US-based Louis Berger and France’s Egis Rail to manage the Gold Line and main stations. The third contract was awarded to US-based Hill International to manage the Green Line.
Al Subaie also said that an enabling works contract worth USD79.1 million was awarded to PORR-SBG-HBK Group, a division of Qatari firm HBK Contracting Co.
Britain’s Lloyd’s Register won a contract for independent safety assessment worth USD15 million.
Al Subaie expected the metro to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2019.
