(MENAFN) Chairman of the Qatari organizers of climate talks in Doha, Fahad Bin Mohammed al-Attiya, stated that the country plans to set up a USD10-20 billion solar energy plant in 2014, reported Arabian Business.
Al-Attiya said that Qatar welcomes firms to offer their bids for the 1,800 megawatt (MW) plant, which is expected to boost the country’s output of renewable energy.
The power generated by the solar energy would primarily power Qatar’s desalination plants, which at the current time are gas fuelled.
Once operational, the share of renewables in Qatar’s electricity generation energy mix will grow to 16 percent from the current 0.
It is worth noting that the establishment of the plant is forecasted to complete by 2018.
