(MENAFN) Qatar is set to produce an additional 500,000 tons of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) a year, when the USD10.3 billion Barzan Gas Project begins operation in 2014, The Peninsula reported.

The Gulf State’s total exports of LPG amount to 11 million tons per year, making it one of the largest LPG exporters in the world.

Qatar’s Minister of Energy and Industry said: “As a dedicated global supplier of energy, the State of Qatar is proud to be a pioneer and a leader in the gas industry. Qatar is the world leader in LNG, producing 77 million tonnes per year. And with our two world scale gas-to-liquids plants, we have emerged as the ‘gas-to-liquids’ capital of the world.”
