(MENAFN) The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is planning to turn Al-Shamal into a tourism hotspot, Gulf Times reported.
The newspaper cited QTA chairman Issa bin Mohamed al-Mohannadi as saying that the project will involve the construction of a modern harbour and developing the area’s archaeological heritage that traces back to pre-Islamic times.
“People think Doha is the only option when it comes to exploring Qatar. It is not the case … we have this place as well, less buzzing though, but having its own flair to offer,” said al-Mohannadi.
Al-Mohannadi added that the authority will also build hotels, roads and other facilities.
