(MENAFN) Qatar’s water demand in the run-up-to the 2022 FIFA World Cup is expected to increase up to 482 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD), including an additional demand of 32MIGD during the games, which would last up to three months including the time for the teams’ preparations, The Peninsula Qatar reported.
The Water Operation and Control Department at Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) said that the Qatar’s daily water consumption is about 308MIGD, which is expected to increase steadily over the next eight years by 56.5 percent.
Qatar, which already has one of the highest rates of per capita water consumption in the world at 430 litres a day, is expected to grow further in the years to come in its water demand.
Kahramaa, is planning to have a special strategy for the increasing demand water supply but that it will not confined to only for 2022, but will have a long-term visionand that they are committed to meet Qatar’s need of high quality water as well as follow the best local and international standards in accordance with the goals of Qatar National vision 2030.
Meanwhile, Kahramaa is currently focusing on reducing water loss in the distribution network at a level similar to the most developed countries as well as establishing smart-grid system and ensuring water supply for emergency situations.
