QE2 to be transformed into luxurious hotel

(MENAFN) The owner of the QE2 cruise liner in Dubai announced plans to transform the ship into a luxurious floating hotel, Arabia Business reported.

The ship”s 990 staterooms will be transformed into 400 suites. An accommodation and ballroom will be added as well as seven restaurants, 10 lounges, a museum, a cinema and a shopping mall.

“No other ship can match the QE2″s prestige, or her legacy. She is an absolute icon of maritime history, one of the best and most powerful ships in the world. Therefore, our decision on a partner was critical,” said chairman of QE2 Holdings and Dubai”s Drydocks World,

QE2 Holdings contracted COSCO Shipyard Group to perform the necessary work to transform the ship. The ship will leave Dubai to port at COSCO Shipyard”s facility in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province. Works are estimated to complete by 2015.
