(MENAFN) The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) stated that during the January-June period, remittances by Jordanians living abroad went up to nearly USD1.73 billion, reported Xinhua News.

The central bank said that the figure represents a growth of 2 percent from the USD1.70 billion recorded in last year’s same period.

On the other hand, the Jordanian Department of Statistics said that the bulk of the Jordanian expatriates work in medicine, engineering, IT and education sectors, mainly in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

It is worth noting that there are around 600,000 Jordanians working outside the Kingdom.
