(MENAFN) The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) expected the USD196.5 million roads project in Dubai to complete in mid-2013, Arabian Business reported.

Mattar Al Tayer, chairman and executive director of RTA said that the Rashid Hospital Tunnels project was currently 75 percent finished and would be operational in June 2013.

The project includes the construction of roads and two two-lane tunnels in Bur Dubai.

He indicated that the Rashid Hospital Tunnels project forms part of a master plan aimed to reduce traffic bottlenecks in the vicinity of Rashid Hospital, and raise the traffic flow in the area.

He added that the total capacity of roads located within the project domain was poised to rise to 6,000 vehicles per hour on completion.

The RTA said it has executed several projects in Bur Dubai to eliminate tailbacks and increase traffic capacity on the roads to meet growing urbanization and traffic growth needs.
