Saudi job seekers not interested in Haj transportation jobs

18 Aug 2013

(MENAFN) The Saudi Ministry of Labor is discussing problems facing the Saudization of jobs in 18 companies involved in transporting pilgrims, Saudi Gazette reported.

The General Syndicate of Cars said that, of the total number of applicants who applied for the 20,000 jobs in the four months since they were announced, only 4 percent were Saudi nationals.

Deputy Chairman of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Ziyad Farsi, said that Saudi colleges of technology and training institutes are to blame for not preparing their graduates for the requirements of the labor market. He added that Saudis are not easily lured to many full-time jobs despite of many offered incentives.

“For these reasons, we have requested the Ministry of Labor to create a zone (Nitaq) that is separate from the existing Nitaqat system. Our work is now throughout the year. The Umrah season goes on for seven months and Haj for two months. From statistics of the past years, the Saudization percentage in this sector has not reached 7 percent,” he added.

The General Syndicate of Cars is responsible for regulating transportation of pilgrims in Haj and Umra seasons.
