(MENAFN) Saudi Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) announced that it has granted USD256 million worth of contracts to Swedish Ericsson and China’s Huawei, reported Arabian Business.
The telecommunications provider said that Ericsson contract is worth USD149.93 million, whereas Huawei’s is USD106.52 million.
The Saudi firm plans to expand and upgrade its high-speed networks through strengthening its data services.
It added that the contracts cover projects that will expand both the 3G network and long-term evolution, or 4G, network and enhance efficiency, noting that the projects will be executed during a period of one year.
At the current time, the firm’s 3G network covers 96 percent of populated areas in the Kingdom.
It is worth noting that LTE is specially formed to transfer data rather than voice, and potentially offers download speeds that exceed that of 3G, which it will eventually replace.
