(MENAFN) A road through Al Rab Al Khali connecting Saudi Arabia with Oman is expected to be completed by the end of 2014, Saudi Gazette reported.
The road will stretch for 160 kilometers in Oman which was completed in 2004 but is being delayed because of border crossing issues between the countries are not yet worked out.
Saudi Minister of Transport Dr Jabbara bin Eid Al Sarisari said that the USD328 million 519 km long part inside the Kingdom is expected to finish by the end of next year.
Once the project is completed visitors from Oman will not have to pass through the UAE and would cut the distance between the countries down to 800 km instead of 2,000 km currently.
