(MENAFN) The Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) announced it has signed USD12.57 million contract with a national company for the purpose of controlling traffic on both sides of the railway line through a fiber optic network project, Arab News reported.
The project, which is expected to cover the full railway line network with a total length of more than 1.000 km, is the first of its kind in the Middle East and will include the obtaining, installation, training, and operation and maintenance for a five-year period.
The project also aims to upgrade safety levels, enhance efficiency of the railway network by adopting the latest safety standards as well as minimizing irregular infringements on the boundaries of the railway lines and coordinate mobility on both sides of the railway.
SRO said that the project will allow them to adopt and use modern technologies in detection and control works through the fiber optic cables, which will help them deal with the issues more quickly and efficiently.
