(MENAFN) British company Serco has been awarded the contract to operate the tram system in Dubai, The National reported.
Serco announced yesterday that it agreed to the USD28.58 five-year deal with the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) to run the 10.6-kilometer Dubai Tram.
The tram system will operate 11 trams at first transporting 27,000 passengers per day. The RTA expects that around 25 trams will be operational by 2020 transporting 66,000 passengers per day.
