(MENAFN) Germany’s Siemens announced the beginning of the construction works of its new regional headquarters at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, Arabian Business reported.
The project is part of a strategic partnership with Masdar, occupying 18,000 sqm of office space that will accommodate nearly 2,000 staff.
Siemens said in a statement that phase 1 of the project will be completed in the summer of 2013.
12,000sqm of space will be available for leasing in the first phase, which will include a centre of excellence for smart buildings and a leadership development centre, as well as a conference centre for both customer and corporate use.
Under the partnership with Masdar, Siemens will provide technologies for smart buildings and jointly develop a smart grid for the initial phase of Masdar City that will optimize energy consumption and reduce emissions, Siemens said.
Masdar Institute and Siemens are already cooperating in R&D and innovation-led technology projects, the company added.
