(MENAFN) Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) signed a contract with Spanish Consultants Company for USD1.59 million to study the possibility for a high-speed train connecting Riyadh and Dammam with a proposed speed of 350 kilometer an hour, Arab News reported.
The 10-month contract will include a traffic movement study between the two cities, a comparison between the proposed line with existing main lines as well as a preliminary technical description of the infrastructure for the project.
The study will also include the transits which would be used for this high-speed line and the estimation of the financial cost of the overall project and the expected revenues.
“The contract comes within the development plans adopted by SRO to raise the level of services provided to meet the growing demand for transportation services by train,” SRO President said.
