(MENAFN) Sudanese President, Omar Al Bashir, said that the government will not open its oil pipelines to South Sudan to use them for transferring oil, reported Gulf News.
Al Bashir added that Sudan doesn’t need oil fees from the South, which became independent last July, and assumed control of nearly 3-quarters of the formerly united country’s output of 490,000 barrels per day (bpd).
The president’s announcement came during a speech attended in Khartoum to celebrate the liberation’ of oil-rich Heglig region, which was occupied by South Sudan on April 10.
It is worth noting that in late January, South Sudan stopped oil output after accusing Sudan of stealing its exports, however, Sudan said that it confiscated the crude to compensate for unpaid fees.
