Sultanate’s first wind-based project will be ready in 2 years

(MENAFN) A contract was signed to build the Sultanate’s first wind-based renewable power project by a European company. It is expected to generate 50 megawatt electricity at Harweel in Dhofar governorate.

This project was developed by the state-owned Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAECO) and the UAE based Masdar. And will be completed in 18-24 months.

Reports stated that the project in Dhofar will cost USD125m, and 15 to 25 turbunes will be installed with heighs of 120 to 145 meters from the surface of land. Also, the capacity of each turbine is 2 to 3.2 MW, and that depends on its location and wind movement.
