Swiss banks freeze USD21m in Syrian assets

(MENAFN) Switzerland has recently frozen USD21 million in Syrian assets belonging to the members of President Assad’s government, reported the Daily Star.

A spokesperson for the Swiss Economics Ministry, Marie Avet said that USD21 million belonging to the posse of Assad have been blocked.

This recent freeze on Syrian accounts, along with other holds on the money bring the total amount of frozen funds to approximately USD72.4 million.

Switzerland also has travel bans on over 127 people of Assad’s regime and declared the Syrian ambassador a “persona non grata” and ousted him over outrage of the Houla massacre that left 108 people dead.
