TAQA to invite firms for UAE’s first green power plant tender

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) unveiled plans to tender a proposed USD1 billion, 100MW waste-to-energy plant, the Construction Week magazine reported.
The plant is aimed at handling up to a million tonnes of solid waste a year and convert it into 100MW of power, which is enough to power around 20,000 homes a year.
Firms will be invited to submit qualifications before tendering the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build the UAE’s first waste-to-energy plant.
TAQA said that the request for qualifications follows the completion of a pre-feasibility study and the signing of a deal in June 2012 with The Centre of Waste Management Abu Dhabi to jointly develop the site.
The energy and utility firm expects to select the EPC winner in the last quarter of 2013, with the plant due to come on stream in 2016/17.
Waste Management Abu Dhabi to provide a solution to the increasing volume of waste produced each year in the capital, TAQA said.
