(MENAFN) Saudi Aramco has awarded the Spanish energy contractor Tecnicas Reunidas a USD1.7 billion contract to construct a large power complex in Jazan Province, according to Arab News.
The new Jazan IGCC complex would be the largest gasifier-based power facility in the world and is expected to start operations in 2017.
The complex will convert vacuum residue to be produced in the adjacent Jazan refinery into synthesis gas (syngas).
The new facility is expected to have a capacity of as much as 2.110.00 Nm3/h of syngas, and to fuel a combined cycle facility producing utilities and power for the refinery and export to the national grid.
