(MENAFN) The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) said that tourism revenue from international visitors to Oman went over USD1 billion last year, Times of Oman reported.
Tourism in some nations in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) expanded slightly or even declined due to the turmoil in some of the region’s countries. In Oman, however, revenue from tourism went up from USD996 million in 2011 to USD1.095 billion in 2012.
According to the UNWTO, the Sultanate’s total tourism share in the Middle East reached 2.3 percent following the UAE with USD10.38 billion, Saudi Arabia with USD7.43 billion and Qatar with USD2.85 billion. Oman came fourth on the list followed by Kuwait with USD425 million.
