(MENAFN) In the first five weeks since the beginning of the Khareef season on June second, tourist arrival in Oman’s Dhofar was very low, but that changed during Eid Holidays, Times of Oman reported.
The number of visitors to Salalah in the first four weeks of the Khareef season slumped by 62 percent compared to the same period of 2012.
During the Eid period tourists began arriving to Salalah at an increased rate. The general manager of the Hilton Salalah Resort said that occupancy rate went up by 50 percent during Eid period and that it is expected to keep rising until the end of the month.
The assistant director of sales at the Juweira Boutique Hotel, Rakhee Dutia, said that occupancy rate went up to 83 percent following Ramadan. “The rise was more than 33 per cent if we compare it with the pre-Eid period,” Dutia said.
New Hotels and resorts projects are being developed or planned in Dhofar adding more rooms and chalets and attracting more tourists.
