(MENAFN) Tunisia’s tourism revenues increased 19 percent this year, showing a recovery in vital sector crippled two years ago by attacks on foreign holidaymakers.
Accordingly, 4.58mn foreign tourists visited the country, while arrivals from Algeria were more than 60 percent, supported by a promotional campaign by Tunisia.
In addition, the number of foreign tourists is projected to grow to 6.5mn this year, up almost 30 percent from last year, due to an improving security situation.
Furthermore, tourism accounts for almost 8 percent of the country’s gross domestic product, offers thousands of jobs and is a key source of foreign currency.
