(MENAFN) The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) stated that in the January-October period of 2012, the country’s mobile operators added around 1.62 million new users, reported Emirates 24/7.
The TRA said that the figure brought the number of total mobile users in the country to 13.34 million.
It added that the leading mobile phone service in the period was the pre-paid subscription, with 11.66 million subscribers at the end of October, representing over 85 percent of the total GSM users.
On the other hand, the number of fixed line users grew by approximately 115,000; however, the number of internet subscribers through routers and fixed lines fell by about 378,000.
It is worth noting that at the end of the period, the number of Etisalat subscribers stood at 7 million, whereas du’s subscribers exceeded 6 million.
