(MENAFN) The UAE Central Bank stated that in the past year, the number of credit and debit cards issued by banks in the country grew by 2.3 percent from a year before to 10.4 million cards, reported Gulf News.
The bank said that the year’s biggest rise was recorded in the third quarter, with over 243,000 cards issued in the period.
Meanwhile, the number of ATMs in 2012 rose by 7.7 percent from 2011, reaching 4,492 machines.
In the year, total transactions performed through credit and debit cards grew by 26.2 million to 387.8 million transactions, up from 361.6 million a year earlier.
It is worth noting that the total amount of transactions made though credit and debit cards gained 10 percent to USD112.13 billion, from USD99.53 billion in 2011.
