(MENAFN) The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) said that last year, the number of tourists who visited the emirate rose to 1.563 million, reported Emirates 24/7.
The SCTDA added that the notable increase in the number of tourists is a significant indication the Sharjah’s tourism sector is becoming stonger.
It also said that the authority aims at boosting the sector and raise its share in the emirate’s growth.
It is worth noting that occupancy rate of the hotels and hotel apartments in Sharjah in 2011 had hit 74 percent, compared with 73 percent in the previous year.
