UAE- Sharjah posts 11% rise in number of 2012 tourists

(MENAFN) Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority’s chairman, Mohamed Ali Al Noman, stated that in 2012, the number of tourists who visited the UAE emirate grew by 11 percent from 2011, exceeding 1.7 million, reported The National.

Al Noman said that the emirate’s hotel occupancy reached nearly 75 percent, whereas occupancy at hotel apartments stood at 72 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of hotel nights rose by 13 percent on annual basis to over 2 million.

He added that the emirate had 101 hotels and hotel apartments last year, with 9,141 rooms.

It is worth noting that Europeans formed the bulk of Sharjah visitors, standing at over 621,000 tourists, followed by GCC visitors, who reached 618,000.
