(MENAFN) Sharjah Airport Authority’s Chairman, Ghanem Al Hajri, stated that at the current time, the authority is reviewing a plan to expand Sharjah International Airport as it exceeded its full capacity of 7 million passengers in 2012, reported Emirates 24/7.
Al Hajri said that a preliminary study is being executed and by the end of 2013 the authority will announce and ink the expansion plan contract.
The chairman attributed the increase in passenger traffic mainly to the fast expansion of Air Arabia, the first largest source of passenger traffic at the airport.
It is worth noting that in 2012, the number of passengers who passed the airport climbed by 13.6 percent to more than 7.5 million from 6.6 million in 2011.
