04 Mar 2012

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Fund for Development’s (ADFD) acting director general, Mohammed Al Suwaidi, said that the fund launched a 6MW wind farm in the Seychelles, reported Arabian Business.

Al Suwaidi added that the project, funded by the UAE, is the first major renewable energy project in the Seychelles and would generate 11 percent of electricity on the main island.

He also said that the wind farm project would also reduce fossil fuel imports and greenhouse gas emissions.

Moreover, UAE’s Masdar, the green energy company, has awarded the South Korean wind-power generation equipment maker Unison Co the contract to establish the wind farm.

It is worth noting that the wind farm will have 8 turbines, 5 located on Romainville Island and 3 on Ile du Port.
