Unemployment at 27 percent in Gaza, 16.8 percent in West Bank

(MENAFN) Labour work force data released by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics show that unemployment in Gaza Strip hit 27 percent in the three months period ended June 30, while the West bank’s unemployment stood at 16.8 percent.

The number of unemployed people in Q2 came at 126,000 in the West Bank and 108,000 in Gaza bringing the total number of unemployed people in Palestine to 234,000.

Unemployment for men in the period was 17.6 percent and almost double for women at 33.6 percent.

It is worth mentioning that the services sector employed 50.2 percent and 33.1 percent of the number of people employed in Gaza and the West Bank respectively making the highest employing sector in Palestine.
