USD4m daily losses for Jordan over Egypt’s gas supply drop

(MENAFN) The Jordanian authority for the organization of electricity sector estimated its daily losses over the drop in Egyptian gas supplies last year by USD4 million, KUNA reported.

As a result of this drop, suffered around USD 1.416 billion in losses in 2011, the authority added.

In 2009, Jordan imported form Egypt 300 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, and then dropped to 220 million cubic feet per day in 2010 and to 80 million last year.

The natural gas pipeline from Egypt to Jordan suffered from 10 explosions since the beginning of last year. Jordan is considering shifting to Qatar to make up for the Egyptian gas drop.
