USD5.28 b investments in Kuwait’s water sector

(MENAFN) Kuwait Financial Centre (Markaz) said that investments in Kuwait’s water sector hit USD5.28 billion in the period between 2005 and 2014.

The highest investments were in water treatment plants with USD3.4 billion. Many such projects occurred in 2010 including Sabiya distillation plants projects Stage I & Stage II, Shuaiba north distillation plants and Shuwaikh Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant.

Municipalities, which are mostly large cities, are the main consumers of potable water as population in these cities are on the rise driving demand even further. Consumption of potable water reached 128,246 million imperial gallons (MIG) in 2011 with expectations to reach 142,320 MIG in 2015.

The agricultural sector, also a big consumer, needed 19,265 MIG in 2011. Water used in agriculture is not suitable for municipalities.
