(MENAFN) Qatar Rail has sealed a deal to design and monitor the first level of the Doha metro that is worth USD8.2 billion which, Arabian business reported.
The giant project is due in 2019 and to start construction by the end of the current year and will include four rail lines and an underground section in the center of the capital and will link stadiums for the 2022 World Cup soccer tournament to be held in Qatar.
The company stated: “Qatar Rail is working hard to start construction by the year’s end, so that the first phase operations begin by 2019.” Adding: “The entire project features a sustainable design that consumes fewer resources, generates less waste, costs less to operate, and achieves a reduced carbon footprint.”
Phase one contracts will involve the Red Line North (RLN), Red Line South (RLS), Green Line (GRN) and major stations.
