(MENAFN) UAE’s state news agency WAM stated that the government will donate USD136 million in food aid to Yemen as nearly half of the population did not have sufficient food, reported Arabian Business.
WAM added that in May, Gulf and Western countries vowed to aid Yemen with over USD4 billion, of which USD3.25 billion comes from Saudi.
Over a year of political upheaval that swept the country and protests against former president Ali Abdullah Saleh hampered Yemen’s economy.
It is worth noting that Yemen’s deteriorating security situation provided Al Qaeda with the opportunity to establish a solid foundation in the country.
